Why Jordan Spieth's buddy might really regret filling in as caddie
Jordan Spieth reportedly had an extra incentive to get birdies during the opening round of Tiger Woods' Hero World Challenge on the PGA Tour.
If you're watching the Hero World Challenge this week you might notice something not right when watching Jordan Spieth.
His long-time caddie Michael Greller isn't looping for the three-time major champion in the Bahamas so the American has asked his buddy Eric Leyendecker to stand in.
Spieth's opening round - where Tiger Woods made his first competitive start in seven months - was certainly a wild ride.
But that is just par for the course if you're named Spieth.
Spieth's 4-under 68 in Albany contained six birdies, two eagles, four bogeys and one triple.
Why we are talking about this is because Spieth had some extra motivation to get as many birdies and eagles as he could.
According to Golf, Spieth and his fill-in caddie had an agreement whereby for every birdie he made, Leyendecker would then drink a beer during the Dallas Cowboys game.
An eagle? That was worth two beers.
We're sure you're more than capable of working out just how much booze Leyendecker consumed and why he might turn up for round two a little bit worse for wear.
Spieth didn't address this in his post-round interview with a pool of reporters but he did enjoy the hilarity of his round.
"It was an electric factory out there," he said.
"Some rusty putting, a couple toe balls and then a lot of really, really good stuff.
"So all in all I would have probably signed for 4-under when I was warming up today, I just didn't think I'd get there this way."
Spieth will be playing the second round of the Hero World Challenge alongside Cameron Young.
