The PGA Tour is reportedly set to announce that the 2025 Genesis Invitational, hosted by Tiger Woods, will be played at Torrey Pines.
The PGA Tour is reportedly set to announce the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at Torrey Pines.
Tiger Woods has served as host of the event at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles since 2019.
The tournament, which will be played over 13-16 February, benefits his foundation and is one of eight signature events on the 2025 schedule.
Four days ago, the PGA Tour confirmed it will be held at a different location because of the devastation caused by the LA wildfires.
There was speculation the event would be cancelled altogether.
Riviera is located within the fire evacuation zone but has not been damaged.
The area has suffered the most destructive fire in LA history, burning more than 23,000 acres, devastating the community and forcing thousands from their homes.
NBC news have reported that as of 20 January, 27 people have died as a result of the fires.
California has a plethora of top notch courses and it was speculated that PGA West, Torrey Pines, Pebble Beach and even TPC Scottsdale would be suitable venues to take the Genesis to.
Rick Gehman of CBS sports has claimed the decision has been made, though, to take the $20m tournament to Torrey Pines.
"I have the understanding that Torrey Pines will be selected to host the Genesis Invitational," he wrote on X.
He said the PGA Tour wanted to keep the tournament in California and Torrey Pines was the perfect venue considering its proximity to Riviera.
Torrey Pines is essentially Tiger Woods' playground.
Of Woods' 82 wins, he has sealed eight victories at Torrey Pines.
He won there for the first time in 1999.
Undoubtedly, his most famous came at the 2008 U.S. Open where he triumphed over Rocco Mediate in an 18-hole playoff.
Woods sank a birdie at the 72nd hole to force a playoff.
