Scottie Scheffler's hat worn on day of shock arrest at US PGA has just sold for big bucks

The Nike Golf cap that Scottie Scheffler wore on the day of his arrest in the second round of the 2024 US PGA has just sold at auction.

Scottie Scheffler's famous Nike Golf cap that he wore immediately after his shock arrest during the second round of the US PGA at Valhalla has just sold at auction with proceeds going to the Kids Cancer Alliance. 

Scheffler, 28, was arrested at 6.20am on Friday 17 May just outside the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club and hours before the start of his second round at the 2024 US PGA. 

The World No.1 was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, a class-C felony, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic.

The incident happened after Scheffler misread the traffic flow situation heading into Valhalla GC following a fatal collision earlier in the morning.

Scheffler was placed in handcuffs and sent to jail for just over an hour

He was then released just in time for him to make his second round tee time. 

Scheffler went on to shoot an incredible round of 66 in the circumstances.

After a tough round on Saturday, he bounced back with a closing 65 to finish T8.

The cap Scheffler wore with the world watching him during that superb round of 5-under par in the second round of the US PGA has now been sold at auction for the Kids Cancer Alliance

It was also sold alongside three Scheffler-signed golf balls.

The total sale came to $2,375.

The caption to the listing read: 

'A unique piece of sports history you won't find anywhere else! Olympic Gold Medalist Scottie Scheffler autographed hat, which he wore during the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla on May 17, 2024 (a day which is now infamous).

'Also includes a sleeve of three balls each signed by Scottie Scheffler for you to keep for yourself or share with friends.

'Winner will receive certification from Scheffler's manager of authenticity.'

All charges brought against Scheffler were eventually dropped on 29 May. 

Both Scheffler and the Louisville Metro Department agreed not to pursue legal action related to his arrest.

Scheffler has gone on to win seven times in 2024.

Six of those victories have come on the PGA Tour with his seventh a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Scheffler is now seeking to win the FedEx Cup for the first time in his career at East Lake this week. 

He starts with a two-shot lead on 10-under par in the staggered scoring start.
