Scottie Scheffler to golf reporter: "I don't care what they are"

Reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler says he doesn't care where he is in the world rankings after a golf reporter quizzed him on surpassing Tiger Woods' record.

Scottie Scheffler appeared to indicate he could care less about his latest accomplishment.

The reigning Masters champion has now been the best player in the Official World Golf Ranking for 97 consecutive weeks.

He assumed the top spot after he finished second at the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills.

It means he has now leapfrogged Greg Norman in the history books. The Shark's longest streak at the top of the pile was 95 weeks.

Scheffler still has some way to go if he is to match Tiger Woods' utterly ridiculous record.

Woods holds the record for most consecutive weeks as world No.1 with 281 from 2005 to 2010.

Scheffler doesn't appear to be too bothered by the achievement and dismissed its importance ahead of this week's PGA Tour event.

Asked by a reporter before the Texas Children's Houston Open if he even thinks about trying to catch the cat, Scheffler did at the very least agree the streak was noteworthy.

He added: "I think it's something cool to see from some good starts I've had in the last couple of years.

"You know, I definitely put in a lot of work to have that type of achievement.

"Tiger's still got the record by about like eight years or something like that.

"No, [I am] not really thinking about it too much, but at the end of the day, each tournament is a tournament, and you start even par.

"Showing up here being No.1 in the world doesn't do me any good; it just simply doesn't.

"At the end of the day, I'm focused on the tournament and the task at hand.

"The rankings are the rankings, I don't really care what they are."

Scheffler is playing the first two rounds of the Texas Children's Houston Open alongside Sungjae Im and Rickie Fowler.

Rory McIlroy is also in the field and is playing his final tournament before the 2025 Masters.

McIlroy spoke about the changes made to Augusta National in his pre-tournament news conference.

He also had a few choice words for Tour veteran Patton Kizzire.
