PGA Tour pro utterly convinced by playing partners he made an ace (he didn't)
PGA Tour pro Taylor Montgomery was utterly convinced by his playing partners he had made an ace on the first day of the World Wide Technology Championship.
Some golf fans accused Taylor Montgomery's playing partners as being 'the worst ever' after they were convinced the PGA Tour pro had made a hole-in-one during the first round of the World Wide Technology Championship.
The moment arrived on the par-3 16th hole at Tiger Woods' golf course in the Mexican resort town of Cabo San Lucas.
Montgomery's towering iron shot, in fairness, was all over the flagstick that was tucked in the back right corner of the green.
It wasn't immediately clear for Montgomery where his golf ball ended up.
But his playing partners Mackenzie Hughes and J.J. Spaun were utterly convinced he had jarred it.
One exclaimed: "You made it!"
Montgomery wasn't convinced and went in for a sheepish high-five.
"You made it. I'm almost certain it did."
"It's in. It's in the hole."
A conversation followed where Montgomery even accused the spectators of being tough to impress. "They didn't do anything."
"Sure looks like it," Hughes added. "I mean, normally you can see it up there.
"I was gonna say, for a hole-in-one you can give a little better cheer than that."
Montgomery was eventually given the bad news.
Watch the moment here:
"This has to be some sort of crime," one Instagram user wrote. Another added: "Worse playing partners ever."
Montgomery eventually sank the birdie putt for his second in a row on his way to an opening round of 3-under 69.
That was seven strokes behind early leader Cameron Percy. Percy signed for a 10-under 62 before play was suspended.
Michael Kim, Camillo Vegas, Matt Kuchar and Cameron Young were among the notables inside the top-10 after 18 holes.
