The PGA Tour has confirmed a weather delay to the start of the final round of the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral, as dangerous conditions moved into the Miami area earlier than expected on Sunday morning.

UPDATED: PGA TOUR CONFIRMS REVISED FINAL ROUND TEE TIMES FOR CADILLAC CHAMPIONSHIP

Heavy weather had already been forecast for the final day, prompting organisers to revise tee times during Saturday’s third round in an effort to complete play on schedule.

The field was shifted from traditional two-balls off the first tee to threesomes split between the first and 10th tees, with tee times brought forward to a window between 7:30am and 9:40am local time.

However, those contingency plans were quickly disrupted as adverse weather arrived at the Blue Monster course ahead of schedule.

In an early Sunday morning update, the PGA Tour communications team confirmed the suspension of proceedings, stating: “The start of the final round of the Cadillac Championship, originally scheduled for 7:30 a.m. ET, has been delayed due to a dangerous weather situation.”

A further update later in the morning offered no clear resumption time, with officials adding: “With inclement weather remaining in the area, the beginning of the final round of the Cadillac Championship remains delayed.”

Forecast afternoon thunderstorms suggest the situation may deteriorate further as the day progresses, raising the possibility of significant disruption to Sunday’s play.

A Monday finish is now a strong possibility, although no formal decision has yet been announced by the PGA Tour.

At the top of the leaderboard, Cameron Young continues to set the pace after three rounds in Miami.

The 28-year-old American produced a composed two-under-par 70 on Saturday to extend his advantage to six shots as he closes in on a third PGA Tour title.

Young, who captured The Players Championship earlier this season, sits at 15-under-par

He leads a chasing pack featuring world number one Scottie Scheffler, Si Woo Kim, and Kristoffer Reitan, who are all tied six shots back.

The 72-man Cadillac Championship marks the fifth Signature Event of the PGA Tour season.

There is a huge $20m prize purse on the line, with $3.6m going to the winner.

Young is scheduled to tee off in the final group alongside Scheffler and Kim, but the timing of any restart remains uncertain as officials continue to monitor the weather conditions over Doral.

For now, the focus remains on safety and course conditions, with updates expected as soon as further information becomes available from tournament officials.
