Harris English claimed his fifth PGA Tour title at the Farmers Insurance Open with an assured final round performance.

The 35-year-old American carded a one-over par 73 in the last round to finish one shot clear of Sam Stevens.

The former U.S. Ryder Cup team member took a one-shot lead into the final day and was put under pressure by Stevens and Andrew Novak.

But Novak failed to make inroads on the back nine of Torrey Pines' south course whereas English did not drop a stroke.

Elsewhere, highly-rated South African Aldrich Potgieter, 19, began the day in the mix but wilted under pressure, hitting six bogeys and a double bogey en route to a 78.

Former Masters champion Danny Willett carded a 71 to finish inside the top 10.

Ludvig Aberg held the 36-hole lead but the Swede struggled with illness over the weekend and ultimately finished in a tie for 42nd.

Once again the pace of play was called into question.

English's group took nearly three hours to play the front nine.

By the time his final par putt dropped, the group had taken five hours and 29 minutes to complete 18 holes.

CBS on-course commentator and LPGA hall of famer Dottie Pepper called the players out directly on the broadcast.

"You know, Frank [Nobilo], I think we're starting to need a new word to talk about this pace of play issue, and it's respect," she said.

"For your fellow competitors, for the fans, for broadcasts, for all of it. It's just gotta get better."

Next up on the Tour schedule is the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is making his comeback from injury.

As is Jordan Spieth.

Rory McIlroy is also in the field.
