Golf fans stunned by PGA Tour player's actions at Wyndham Championship
Patrick Rodgers made one of the most peculiar decisions of the PGA Tour season during the third round of the Wyndham Championship.
When the cameraman panned to Patrick Rodgers standing in the middle of the 6th green contemplating a 35-footer for birdie with a wedge to hand, everyone feared the worst for his putter.

'What's he doing?!' cried those in the PGA Tour LIVE commentary box.
Only it quickly came to light that Rodgers hadn't broken his putter.
He just fancied trying something different.
Rodgers wanted to take the break out of his right to left birdie putt.
It proved to be a shocking decision.
Here’s Patrick Rodgers purposely using a wedge on a downhill slope in the hopes of getting some spin and the ball so it stops.

It rolled off the front of the green and then he chunked the ensuing chip and it rolled back to his feet. pic.twitter.com/Uau6VEIhvk
The PGA Tour LIVE commentary team - and a number of golf fans on social media - were left baffled as to why Rodgers wouldn't just elect to putt his ball over to the right side of the green and let it trundle down towards the cup.
It looked doable to say the least.
But Rodgers thought better of the shot in hand and chipped his ball towards the hole.
He was hoping for a bit of check but it sadly didn't come and his ball sailed past the hole and off the front of the green.
Patrick Rodgers just earned himself a spot on the permanent black list.

He chipped from the center of the green to off the green. You read that correctly
Rodgers then proceeded to duff his fourth shot and his ball finished just in front of him on the edge of the green.
He then putted his fifth shot past the hole to three feet and thankfully made his double-bogey attempt.
The dismal double from outta nowhere came at the worst possible time for Rodgers, who was in contention for his maiden PGA Tour title at the time.
Rodgers fell from three to five shots off the pace when making his double.
He then went and bogeyed the par-3 7th to tumble further back into the pack.

The PGA Tour is playing catch up with both the third and final rounds being contested on Sunday.
Rodgers is safely inside the top 70 that will head into next week's FedEx St Jude Championship, which marks the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Although Rodgers is still yet to win on the PGA Tour, he has been playing fairly well so far this season with four top-10 finishes, the last of which came at the Barracuda Championship during the week of The 152nd Open.
Rodgers is 81st in the OWGR.
