Bob MacIntyre withdraws from $20m PGA Tour event to go on 'proper sesh'

Fresh off landing his maiden PGA Tour title to earn an invite into this week's $20m Memorial Tournament, Bob MacIntyre has decided to WD to soak in the celebrations back home in Oban.

Bob MacIntyre hinted in his interview with Amanda Balionis that he was ready to get on the sesh after landing his first PGA Tour title, and that's very much what he intends to do after withdrawing from this week's $20m Memorial Tournament hosted by record 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus

MacIntyre, 27, carded a gutsy final-round 68 to see out a narrow one-shot victory over Ben Griffin to capture his maiden PGA Tour title at the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday night.

The Scot became just the sixth Scottish winner in the modern era of the PGA Tour.

He did so in memorable fashion with his father Dougie acting as a stand-in caddie.

The win not only saw him collect a first prize of $1.7m and vault up to 39th in the Official World Golf Rankings, but it sent him to the top of the Aon Swing 5 to book his place in this week's $20m Memorial Tournament at famed Muirfield Village in Ohio.

Nicklaus' event is the seventh of eight signature events on the PGA Tour this season.

But despite receiving an invite into one of the most coveted events of the PGA Tour season, which consists of nine of the top 10 players in the world, MacIntyre has decided to head home to Oban, Scotland, and party hard with his girlfriend, family and friends.

The 2024 Memorial Tournament has a 36-hole cut to the top 50 players and ties, in addition to any players within 10 strokes of the 36-hole lead, and the winner of the event will walk away $4m richer.

When pressed by Balionis on the 18th green as to his plans for the next couple of weeks, MacIntyre said his father Dougie would be travelling home for a well deserved holiday. He then added he would heading back to Scotland to 'have a hell of a party'.

'A proper sesh' is most certainly on the cards, according to Flushing It who first confirmed the news on social media on Monday.

Flushing It tweeted: "As he promised in his presser, Robert MacIntyre has WD from the Memorial and is returning home to celebrate his Canadian Open win. He’s about to have a proper sesh!"

The PGA Tour Communications team then shortly confirmed the news on X / Twitter.

MacIntyre will now spend the next few days at home and then get himself ready for the season's third major at the US Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina, which takes place from 13-16 June.

He did not compete in The Masters but finished a respectable T8 at the US PGA last month.

MacIntyre will be replaced in this week's Memorial Tournament by Davis Thompson

It's fair to say Davis owes Bob a pint!
