Tour pro determined to join LIV Golf in 2025: 'I'm just making sure I'm that guy...'

John Catlin has revealed he is leaving nothing to chance on the Asian Tour's International Series as he chases down a LIV Golf League card for 2025. 

Catlin, 33, currently occupies a commanding lead atop the International Series where the winner of the season-long race gets to join LIV Golf next season.

The American finds himself just shy of 150 points clear of Ben Campbell. 

But with six events left on the International Series this season, Catlin knows nothing is assured just yet. 

Catlin is therefore going to play in all of the remaining International Series events this season to ensure he leaves nothing to chance when it comes to earning a golden LIV Golf ticket that will bring some serious financial perks. 

The World No.124 has performed admirably just about all season on the Asian Tour, none more so than in March and April when landing back-to-back titles in China and Saudi Arabia. 

Every winner of a LIV Golf event earns $4m, and even just rocking up each week ensures a hefty pay packet. 

He has already had a taster for LIV Golf events having filled in for injured players on Crushers GC, Smash GC and Legion XIII six different times in 2024. 

Catlin's best individual result was a T7 at LIV Golf Nashville in June.

Speaking ahead of this week's Black Mountain Championship, the first event of six events in an eight-week end to the Asian Tour season, and Catlin is relishing the prospect of punching his ticket to LIV Golf for 2025. 

“The fact we have these six events left basically means it's completely up for grabs, and whoever plays the best golf is going to win it," said Catlin

"I'm just making sure that I'm that guy."

Catlin, also the Asian Tour Order of Merit leader, also has a distinct advantage over other players this week since he calls Hua Hin his second home. 

“It's nice playing a course I've played for eight or nine years," Catlin said of Black Mountain GC.

"I'm very comfortable around here. It's a town I've lived in for five or six years and any time I get to be around here, that's always a bonus.

"To be in good form is one more bonus on top of that. So I'm looking forward to the week. It's going to be fun. I've played here quite a bit. I have seen how the course has developed over time, and I’ve seen it under a lot of different conditions as well.

"If it dries out a bit, I know how the course will play. If it stays soft, like this, I've seen it like that. I've seen it fast, I've seen it slow. I've seen it under all different kind of conditions. So that will definitely be an advantage."
