Sergio Garcia is facing a battle to make the cut at the BMW International Open after he marked his DP World Tour return with a 3-over 75.
The Spaniard resigned from his home circuit in May 2023 after a panel of former high court judges upheld the sanctions against LIV Golf players.
Garcia paid off his fines and got his membership back in late 2024 in his bid to make the European Ryder Cup team.
But he had to serve a suspension and decided to return this week.
The former Masters champion went round Golfclub München Eichenried in 3-over 75 on Thursday morning with a round that included four bogeys, one double bogey and three birdies.
Garcia's double bogey arrived at the par-4 fifth hole where he drove his tee shot out of bounds.
Marco Penge was among those that started the final event of the European swing well.
The Englishman, who recently returned to action from a suspension owing to a gambling violation, shares the lead on day one after firing a 67.
Penge hit eight birdies on Thursday and his round would have been even better had he not found the water with his tee shot at the last.
YouTube stars George and Wesley Bryan are playing the BMW International on a sponsor's invite.
Wesley carded a 2-under 70 whilst his older brother posted a 73.
