J.J. Spaun was surprised to hear that some golf fans on social media took issue with his untucked shirt in the second round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Valero Texas Open champion J.J. Spaun embraced the Maui crowd in the second round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions by "hanging loose" with his untucked shirt.

Spaun's game was certainly relaxed and carefree on Friday on the Plantation Course as he carded a 5-under 68 to reach 14-under for the week. He and Scottie Scheffler are just two shots behind Collin Morikawa.

The 32-year-old embraced Aloha Friday with his shirt style, but some golf fans on social media didn't enjoy seeing a PGA Tour player wearing his shirt in such a way. One fan even said we'll see "pyjamas, pants and hoodies" next.

"Outrage? I mean, it's Hawaii. We're in Maui. It's sunny. I mean, you got to hang loose, right? So whatever. I mean, I got a lot of good compliments for it from the locals, so that's all I'm trying to impress are the locals here," Spaun said.

Well, hoodies are fairly common now on the golf course. Players such as Morikawa, Justin Thomas and Tyrrell Hatton are just a handful of players to have trialled the new-look golf hoodie while playing on Tour.

Spaun's choice of dress is another sign of how the dress code is evolving in a game steeped in tradition. "Tuck it in, this isn’t LlV," one golf fan commented on Twitter. This is likely a reference to LIV Golf players being allowed to wear shorts in competition.

All aspects of golf clothing appear to be modernising. You see fewer collars on shirts and tighter bottoms to golf trousers, as well as spikeless shoes gravitating away from the traditional spiked designs.

Some people like it and some people don't. But Spaun's outfit choice certainly divided opinions on social media. What is your take?
