Padraig Harrington gets involved in epic rules dispute: "How stupid are you?!"
Padraig Harrington appeared to be the only high-profile golfer to offer his thoughts on an epic rules dispute at Barstool Sports' 'Writer Cup'.
Padraig Harrington says 'there's no answer' after an epic golf rules dispute involving Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy broke out.
To provide some context, the publication held the inaugural 'Writer Cup' for Barstool writers over the weekend.
And it didn't take too long for controversy to erupt.
So what happened?
Well, the drama unfolded between two chaps named Kirk Minihane and Hank Lookwood in their match against Francis Ellis and Arian Foster.
The disagreement in the scramble came after Francis tapped in for a bogey five after missing a par putt from inside 10 feet.
Minihane then argued that as Francis had tapped in, the hole was complete and their score was a five regardless of his playing partner's putt.
Portnoy took issue and an almighty, expletive-laden argument followed.
At one point, Minihane blasted: "How f---ing stupid are you?!"
Portnoy responded by saying he would cancel the tournament if the 'cheating' continued.
"It's a dirt bag move and you know it," he blasted after Minihane let off a number of F-bombs Jon Rahm would've been proud of in their exchange.
"Who cares? It's a rule," said Minihane. "It's not a real rule," Portnoy replied.

And here's Paddy's take:
The “rules of golf” do not cover scrambles so there’s no answer. Common practice would suggest the hole is finished when the first ball is holed, thus a 5.

Harrington wasn't the only tour pro who offered his thoughts.
PGA Tour pro Joel Dahmen said it was 'technically a five' when contacted by Barstool Sports writer Dan Rapaport.
