Software company BRS have found that up until the end of August 2021, 15.3 million rounds were played by golf club members from the previous August in the UK.

However as reported by The Golf Business, BRS also reported that visitor numbers indicated an estimated pandemic boom slowdown from the early summer of 2021.

Although there was a similar trend with membership numbers, they actually appear to be in an even healthier place compared to previous years as well.

More than 705,000 golf club members in the UK use BRS to enter their scores and track their progress and it found that 15.3 million rounds of golf were played from August to August.

If you consider that the summer of 2020 was a period of fantastic growth for golf, these numbers reported by BRS are extremely encouraging.

However, similar to visitor numbers, there was also a predicted membership round slowdown during his summer when compared to last summer.

"At the beginning of the year golf in the UK was closed, everywhere except Scotland, for pretty much the entirety of the first quarter," said a spokeswoman for BRS.

"As the summer progressed and the UK and Ireland began to reopen in other sectors, the number of member bookings has been dropping month on month June to August. June saw a 21 per cent drop year-on-year in member rounds, July was 23 per cent down and August saw an 18 per cent dip.

"This represents two million fewer member rounds played over these three months. External factors certainly came into play this summer.

"A spell of poor weather, the Euros and England’s progression to the final, restaurants and bars reopening, live sport welcoming back spectators, and people starting to return to the office in a flexible format, all contributed and golf had to compete once again for its share of people’s time."
