Patrick Cantlay two back in AT&T Pro Am
Nick Taylor has a two shot lead over Patrick Cantlay after the first round of the AT&T Pro-Am.
Nick Taylor finished in style at the AT&T Pro-Am on Thursday, making two birdies in his final two holes to give the Canadian a two-shot lead over Patrick Cantlay and Chase Seiffert.
Taylor started the tournament at Monterey Peninsula, one of the three courses that the players must take on throughout the tournament, where he shot a bogey-free 63 to put him at the top of the leaderboard after day one.
Cantlay, who recently shared his thoughts on the current driving-distance debate, shot a six-under par round of 66, the lowest round of the day at Spyglass Hill, while Seiffert shot the same score at Pebble Beach.
Phil Mickelson is looking to defend his title after being victorious at this tournament last year and he's got off to a decent start, shooting four-under par.
The American veteran was delighted with his ability off the tee on Thursday, but admitted he missed too many opportunities.
"I drove it like a stallion and hit almost every fairway," Mickelson said. "When you're doing that you can get aggressive and get after it.
"The fact that I didn't take advantage of those opportunities was disappointing, but I feel like I'll be able to continue driving it like that and if I do, I'll get my iron play fixed and roll in some more birdies.
"I let a lot of shots slide throughout the middle of the round. I was very tentative with my pace because the greens were pretty quick and I just wasn't quite aggressive enough on the greens, but I shot a four-under-par round and it's not going to hurt me."
Celebrity Roasting
The AT&T Pro-Am features some pretty well known celebrities, this year including the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Peyton Manning, Macklemore and Bill Murray.
Max Homa, currently ranked 95th in the world, enjoys roasting amateur golfers' swings on Twitter. Golfers will film their swings and tweet Homa asking what he thinks and his answers are usually pretty brutal.
This week, Homa got the chance to roast some of the celebrities taking part in the AT&T Pro-Am. Watch for yourself below:
