Spiranac said on her YouTube video:

"So you want to start golf, now what? I always like the motto 'if you look good, you play good'.

"Let's start with apparel... I'm probably not the best person to be talking about this because I don't believe in dress codes, but at golf courses, they do have them.

"When I go to a golf course, I tend to look up what the dress code is because it differs from country clubs to public golf courses.

"Country clubs tend to be a bit more stuffy, conservative, so you have to wear polos, slacks, sometimes your shorts have to be a certain length.

"It's not that hard to actually follow the dress code unless you're me and I just don't do it!

"That's why I go to public golf courses because there isn't too much of a dress code.

"So always go to the club's website and check the dress code before you show up because I don't want you to feel uncomfortable at all. That's what I always do.

"The best thing about public golf courses, because the dress code isn't as strict, is that you can wear things that probably are already in your closet, so you don't have to go and buy a whole new golf wardrobe.

"Most of us have a polo, pants and shorts already in our closet, and if we don't then we definitely have athletic wear, shorts, nice T-shirts, for girls we can wear leggings, nice little workout tops, you don't have to break the bank to buy any golf clothes.

"So don't be worried when you're starting out, you can wear what you have in your closet.

"Moving on to another weird golf rule that applies with apparel, if you have to tuck your shirt in... mine just doesn't reach but apparently you just tuck it in. Always wear a belt, and always tuck your shirt in.

"I'm not a fan of white belts, a little sidenote on that, so guys if you're investing in belts let's leave the white belts at home, that's for the Tour pros who match their white belts to their white shoes.

"You don't want to be doing that when you first start out, you don't want to try too hard, just get what you need to get going. We're all set with apparel, look good, play even better."
