Former LPGA Tour pro: Diversity in golf is NOT "hiring white women"

A former LPGA tour player has hit out at golf bosses to show diversity in golf by "not just hiring white women". 

Anya Alvarez, 32, who is the founder of MajorLeagueGirls promoting women in sport, took to social media to vent. 

She explained that golf bosses need to understand that in order to diversify that means hiring people from all walks of life. 

That means people of colour, disabled persons and those from the LBGTQ+ community, she wrote.

Alvarez's lengthy thread went on to highlight studies have shown companies with a more diverse group of employees generate more revenue.

She pointed out the PGA of America executive board, with 31 directors, only has two people of colour and five women. 

Alvarez pointed out the LPGA, "an organization which I love", is no better. 

"And I say this not to criticize but rather to challenge golf to do and be better when it comes to this," she posted.

"I love this sport so much and want it to be the best it can possibly be."
