The Australian broke the 36 hole scoring record for a St Andrews Open.

Smith held a two shot lead as the field was trimmed to 70 players.

What a day.

I'll be honest, I want Rory McIlroy to win if you couldn't tell.

One time.

The stage is set for tomorrow!

Cam Smith makes par at 18 to sign for a 1-over 73.

Young has to battle hard to make his par, but he signs for a 71.

20:22
These two...

20:20
Who wins tomorrow?!
20:16
Closing birdies for McIlroy and Hovland

Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland have been superb today.

Absolutely superb.

Hovland drives the 18 green and nestles his eagle putt up close, tapping in for birdie.

He posts a 6-under 66 and McIlroy matches the same score.

McIlroy was putting from the Valley of Sin for eagle and again had great judgement with his flat stick.

These two will duke it out in the final group tomorrow!

20:07
Rory McIlroy makes first bogey of the day at 17

McIlroy almost escapes with a par as his effort from a long, long way across the green just trails off left and he taps in for a bogey.

Hovland? He keeps his card clean and tidies up a brave par.

They share the lead now!

McIlroy -15, Hovland -15 (17)

20:05
DJ signs off with a birdie

DJ gets back to double figures at 18 after he tops his tee shot.

Scheffler makes birdie, too.

Scheffler -11 (69) Johnson -10 (71)

20:01
Double bogey for Young!

What was I just saying about Young staying in this?

Obviously I jinxed him. He's in trouble at 16 and sends his approach over the back of the green and then has too much heat with his third, sending his ball racing back down the green.

His returning putt is not great and in the end he departs with an ugly, costly double!

Smith takes a par.

Smith -12, Young -12 (16)

19:59
Oh no Rory!

Rory is telling his approach into 17 to sit down.

But it absolutely will not and his golf ball clatters into the wall, leaving him practically no shot from there...

Oh no, damage limitation here!

19:57
DJ tops his tee shot at 17

Oh my god, that was hilarious!

DJ just hit a stone top. He absolutely skulled that thing.

And he narrowly misses the Swilcan Bridge...

"That was low," he says.

Well, it reminded us of JT's topped shot on day one on the same hole.

19:55
DJ stops the rot at 17, Scheffler goes backwards

Johnson is in another bunker at 17 and doesn't have much on.

But he sinks a 16 foot putt to save par to stop the bleeding.

He absolutely needs birdie at 18.

Scheffler is in trouble too!

Oh no! He misses from 7 feet to save par.

He usually gobbles those up.

Scheffler -10, Johnson -9 (17)

19:52
How it stands

McIlroy -16 (16)

Hovland -15 (16)

Young -14 (15)

Smith -12 (15)

Kim -11 (67)

Scheffler -10 (17)

Fleetwood -9 (66)

Scott -9 (70)

Johnson -9 (17)

Spieth -8 (68)

Cantlay -8 (71)

19:51
McIlroy ticks off another par!

Smart play from McIlroy at 16. He's down the left side with his tee shot and can't really afford to miss the pin right as everything slopes away from him.

He pops his approach over the pin and safely gets down in two.

Hovland also went left, but his approach was just short of the green. He putts up the hill for birdie, misses, but holds his nerve to save par.

Road Hole next for these two...

McIlroy -16, Hovland -15 (16)

19:48
Patrick Cantlay's charge fades

Cantlay turned in 32, but has dropped shots at 12 and 16 when he really couldn't afford to do so.

He signs for a Saturday 71, meaning his score is -8, along with Jordan Spieth.

19:46
Young is not going away

For someone of Young's age and experience, you wouldn't be surprised if he had troubles with the Old Lady today.

But he's holding up, really, really well.

He is not going away and he ticks off a par at 15.

Smith also has a chance to claw another shot back but he can't quite manage it.

Par will do. Just gotta stick in there, Cam!

Young -14, Smith -12 (15)

19:36
DJ is going the wrong way!

Makes sense that Johnson is running out of steam doesn't it?!

He's coming up on the 54-hole mark.

I jest.

But it's all going wrong for DJ.

From the 13th, he's gone bogey, bogey, par, bogey.

Uh oh.

Johnson -9, Scheffler -11 (16)

19:35
McIlroy and Hovland remain bogey free

The 15th is not an easy hole to navigate.

There's no trouble off the tee for Hovland or McIlroy.

But that pin is just so, so hard to get at.

They both find the heart of the green and navigate tricky par putts each.

These chaps are showing some serious metal on the grandest stage of all.

Both are bogey free thru 15 holes.

Unreal golf, this.

McIlroy -16, Hovland -15 (15)

19:32
Bounce back birdie for Smith!

Smith looks to rebound at the par-5 14th.

He finds the fairway but his approach ends up in the gully.

Smith tries to nestle his third close for an easy birdie, but it's not got the right weight.

Doesn't matter though. He finds the heart with his birdie putt!

Young also makes birdie!

Smith -12, Young -14 (14)

19:28
Fitzy posts 69, reaches -9

Good stuff from Fitzy.

Another good showing in a major.

He makes birdie at 18 to finish his Saturday.

19:26
What is not to like about Scottie Scheffler?

Here's Scottie Scheffler reacting to McIlroy's eagle from earlier...

19:21
Rory McIlroy takes the lead at 14!

Hovland finds the front edge at the par-5 14th and gives himself a birdie putt.

Rory is on the green in two shots and has 33 feet for eagle.

It's a fast putt from left-to-right, down the hill.

Can he manage it? No quite. But it's a simple birdie!

Hovland can't match the birdie.

Rory has the lead on his own!

McIlroy -16, Hovland -15 (14)

19:15
Nightmare for Cameron Smith!

Smith goes left off the tee at the 13th and he has no stance whatsoever.

He's standing in the bunker and using an iron to try and advance his ball, which he is playing from waist height.

Smith doesn't do a great job of it, and only gets it forward about 30 yards!

He smashes his club into the ground in frustration, then chops his third from the the heather into more rough.

Young mishits his approach too, but he's not in nearly as much trouble as Smith.

Smith ends up two-putting for a disastrous double bogey!

Young drops one too!

Smith -11, Young -13 (13)

19:10
DJ putts into a bunker...

I can't believe my eyes.

I didn't think I'd type this sentence this week. But this has just happened.

At the par-5 14th, DJ is just off the green playing his third.

He putts across the green and misjudges it completely and his ball goes straight into the bunker.

Now he has to chop out sideways! His next is short.

He's just made bogey at 13, too.

And no! He adds another bogey at 14.

Johnson -11, Scheffler -11 (14)

19:04
I've seen this picture before in April?!
