WATCH: LIV Golf player Bryson DeChambeau tops shot on driving range
Bryson DeChambeau was hitting balls on the driving range ahead of the LIV Golf Boston Invitational, but did he mean to top his ball this badly?
Professional golfers at the level of Bryson DeChambeau can hit any type of shot at will. Whether it is a high draw or a low fade, they can produce magic with minimal effort.
You could say DeChambeau is an unorthodox golfer with an unorthodox swing. All of his irons are the same length and he has a unique putting grip too, but you can't knock the 28-year-old who won the US Open in 2020.
While he was warming up ahead of the fourth LIV Golf event at The International on Friday, DeChambeau hit a very strange shot on the driving range with a vast number of spectators watching.
As he swung down with his typical power, he topped the ball and it only travelled about 10 yards. But did he mean to do this or was it a genuine mistake?
Interesting warm up from Bryson. I can do that, it’s just not at will pic.twitter.com/8BiVad5OSY

Unfortunately for all of us mere mortals, it would appear DeChambeau deliberately hit this shot. Amateur golfers like to be reassured when professionals hit poor shots, but in this case, the eight-time PGA Tour winner was messing around.
It would appear DeChambeau is wearing a microphone on his waist, so one could assume he was doing a tutorial with young golfers at the venue near Boston.
As soon as he tops the ball, you can hear the voice of David Feherty say, "That's difficult to do," which would also suggest DeChambeau deliberately scuffed his ball and Feherty was hosting this driving range session.
The man from California certainly didn't scuff any shots in the first round on Friday. He shot a 1-under-par 69, but he couldn't match the excellence of Talor Gooch and Matthew Wolff who carded 63s.
DeChambeau looks to be thriving in the new atmosphere of LIV Golf. According to his Crushers GC teammate Anirban Lahiri, he has big things planned for the franchise as LIV expands its horizons in 2023.
