Dean Burmester hits shot OUT OF A TREE in Mauritius

South Africa's Dean Burmester was faced with a shot you don't often see on the DP World Tour in the second round of the Mauritius Open on Friday as his ball landed head-height in a tree at the par-3 17th. 

Burmester initially asked the rules official if he would receive a penalty for hitting out of the tree standing square to the ball, and he was right to be worried because that would be a two-stroke penalty under Rule 10.1c. 

This was actually a ruling that his compatriot Dylan Frittelli fell foul of earlier this year on the PGA Tour, which you can read more about here. 

Under Rule 10.1c, the golfer "must not make a stroke from a stance with a foot deliberately placed on each side of, or with either foot deliberately touching the line of play or an extension of that line behind the ball."

So after avoiding any penalty, Burmester stepped in and thrashed away at the ball. 

Unfortunately for him, the ball just went straight down and it would lead to a double-bogey five.

To his credit, he would go and eagle the par-5 18th but in the end it mattered little as Burmester missed the cut by two strokes on 2-over par.

At the top of the leaderboard, France's Antoine Rozner surged into a tie for the lead with a blistering 64. 

Rozner finds himself at 10-under par heading into the weekend alongside Finland's Sami Valimaki and Spain's Alfredo Garcia-Heredia. 

South Africa's Oliver Bekker is one shot off the pace.
