Golf fans divided over viral clip involving Max Homa and Viktor Hovland at US Open
Golf fans divided over the actions of PGA Tour stars Max Homa and Viktor Hovland during the US Open at Pinehurst No.2.
AimPoint is seemingly like marmite. You either love it or hate it. At least that is the reaction among a large number of golf fans during the US Open.
While AimPoint divides opinion at the best of times, this fairly new putting craze has been all the rage on X / Twitter the past 24 hours.
That's after an incredible video of PGA Tour stars Max Homa and Viktor Hovland went viral at Pinehurst No.2.

AimPoint is a simple alignment method that involves using both your feet and your hands to figure out the exact line a putt should be hit on in order for it to find the target.
The more slope that is felt, the more fingers are held up.
The outermost finger then gives the player the ‘aim point’ in which to hit their putt.
As for the viral clip in question, we join Homa and Hovland going about their business, simultaneously reading their putts with LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau watching on.
What do you make of AimPoint?
— GolfMagic (@GolfMagic) June 14, 2024
Homa is seen turning his back to the hole, feeling every inch of the putt as he squats lower to the ground.
Hovland is then seen walking towards the hole, shuffling his feet as he moves closer and closer towards the hole.
The critics of AimPoint believe a) what's the point when you can just read putts normally, and b) the time taken to go about your business doing AimPoint.
The fans of AimPoint would disagree with you, however, saying the proof is in the pudding if you actually try to use it.
Hovland and Homa both missed the cut on 6-over par. So make of that what you will.

Golf fan Gabby Herzig, who writes for The Athletic, tweeted in disbelief at the video.
She tweeted:
"I’ve been anti-AimPoint since my junior golf days when girls would stomp all over my line to read their 4-foot putts.
"We’ve reached a new level of disgrace. Literally what is happening here."

I seriously cannot wrap my head around how these guys are supposedly feeling breaks with their feet that are so subtle they can’t see it with their own eyes.

People don't like new things. This is just aesthetically displeasing to look at till it becomes a normality.
— Byron Lindeque (@TheModelManiac) June 13, 2024
How is this any different to doing a full 360 walk around surveying the slopes from all angles?
Pretty sure guys are not doing this directly on the lines of their…
If you use aim point, you can’t putt. No one in history whose been a significantly good putter has ever used this.

People have been reading greens with their feet for many many years. It's just now codified. I will never stop doing it.
— David Ober (@OberGolfer) June 13, 2024
HATE IT!

Looks like a modern version of freeze tag.

Because it works? $25M won on tour last year using it. I’d love to see you putt on those greens
— Thomas (@TStheKid23) June 14, 2024
It’s ridiculous
— Dukie B (@brucekenerson1) June 14, 2024
Started doing aimpoint, albeit not to the extent the pros do it, about 3 years ago. I’ve gotten so good at putting most of my normal golf buddies ask me to walk their putt before they hit it to check their line. Maybe I should start charging them?
— Matt Cramer (@mattcramergolf) June 14, 2024
I wouldn't use this ever. I look at the green as I am walking up to my putt and I look at it from behind the putt and then I get set and go. They take too long on the greens and it trickles down to the amateur game.

I love when they have a 4 footer and stand 2 feet away from the cup and rock back and forth a bit….Imagine if we all did that
