Masters legend goes in hard on what he despises in professional golf
Legendary Masters commentator Jim Nantz has put AimPoint users in professional golf on full blast, saying he 'can't stand' the green reading technique.
Legendary Masters commentator Jim Nantz has outlined what he despises most about watching professional golf.
His chief complaint? AimPoint.
Nantz explained his issues with the green reading technique in The Thing About Golf podcast hosted by John Huggan.
AimPoint has really taken off in recent years and perhaps former green jacket winner Adam Scott is the highest-profile player to use it.
The likes of Keegan Bradley, Max Homa and Justin Rose are also fans.
Our Alex Lodge tried using it for 138 days consecutively to see if it improved his game.
"It really drives me crazy when you see their backs to the hole," Nantz said.
"And they're trying to feel the break, and they walk another five feet and they do it again.
"They go through this process [but] where's the feel in it?
"I know they're trying to win and trying to find a shot over the course of four days that can make the difference.
"But, to me, if you're playing a lot of golf and you're standing over a 20-footer, it's a cup outside the left, it's the left edge, play it a cup and a half…
"I mean, all this, is it really making a difference? Maybe it is. But I can't stand looking at it."
Nantz also spoke at length on other topics in the sport and how he became the lead announcer for CBS' Masters coverage.
You can listen to the podcast here.
Nantz, now 65, has been calling the action at The Masters for CBS since 1986.
The 2025 Masters will be his 38th in the booth and he plans to be the lead commentator until at least 2036.
That date would also represent the 100th playing of the tradition unlike any other.
