Xander Schauffele fires back after insult over golf attire: "I don't give a s---"

Xander Schauffele was involved in some light-hearted banter about his attire during an appearance on a golf podcast before the Olympics.

Xander Schauffele is a man in high demand right now.

The American captured two of the four major championships this year and is going for gold at the Olympics

Even if he doesn't triumph at Paris 2024, the 30-year-old could still pip Scottie Scheffler to the player of the year award.

Schauffele hopped onto the Pardon My Take podcast earlier in the week to discuss his whirlwind year.

Throughout his appearance, the golfer discussed a number of topics.

Chief of which was his Open win at Royal Troon, where he declared after he birded the 14th hole in the final round he knew he was going to win.

How he looks on the golf course was also of particular interest to the hosts.

Schauffele was told that he 'kind of looks like a waiter' because he wears a pair of black adidas golf shoes

The PGA Tour star took the 'insult' on his chin.

"That's humbling," he said. "I got nothing for you.

"Adidas is my shoe sponsor and they wanted me to wear contrasting colours.

"I don't give a s--- what I look like quite honestly.

"I don't have to look at me when I'm playing. I do have to look at my shoes.

"I do feel good so, as long as I feel good, and the shoes are shoes.

"I wore those black shoes at the fricking PGA and won with them."

Schauffele previously wore adidas apparel too, but at the turn of the year he parted ways with the company for Descente.

Descente is a premium Japanese brand.

"The expectations have to be reeled in here"

Schauffele began the year with an unwanted moniker.

Like Scheffler before him, he had the tag of being one of the best golfers yet to win a major championship despite a number of close calls.

Schauffele admitted after he won The Open he did have a bit of a chip on his shoulder in this regard.

But going forward, he says that he doesn't want to get too far ahead of himself despite many believing the floodgates have well and truly opened.

"I don't think I would have won this one [The Open] if my head was through the roof for too long.

"That's gonna be something that I have to work on to set the bar right and keep moving along."

He added: "It was totally different feelings for both.

"I was significantly more nervous at the PGA [because] of the back-and-forth and the holes playing a little bit easier.

"The style of golf was so different and everyone was so bunched up.

"The back nine at Troon is so fricking hard.

"If you hit good shots and make birdies on holes where no one else is making birdies then you will gain an advantage."
