Tiger Woods putts birdie attempt into bunker en route to R2 70 in Albany
Tiger Woods shocked golf fans during the second round of the Hero World Challenge by horribly misjudging a birdie putt at the 20-man PGA Tour event.
Tiger Woods had a moment to forget during the second round of the Hero World Challenge on his PGA Tour return.
Woods, 47, told a pool of reporters after his opening round of 3-over 75 he was 'sore' but responded to the physical challenge well.
What troubled him more was not being mentally prepared, he said.
Woods illustrated perhaps there is still some way to go in this department after putting one birdie attempt straight into a bunker.
The moment arrived on the par-5 15th in Albany. He was playing well at that point and had played the previous 14 holes in 4-under.
Woods found the fairway with his tee shot and hit his approach to the right side of the green.
Ordinarily, you'd expect the former World No.1 to take two putts for birdie or, at the very least, escape with a par.
The golfer watched in horror as he completely misjudged the pace and saw his golf ball race into the greenside trap.
Clearly angry, Woods played the next shot quickly and couldn't hole the 14ft slider to save par.
He dropped another shot at the very next hole but in true Woods fashion sank a 29ft putt for birdie at the 17th.
Woods ended up carding a second round of 2-under 70 to sit at 1-over par after 36 holes.
He told a pool of reporters: "I made a few mistakes and overall the round was better, for sure.
"The start was better, the middle part of the round was better.
"I missed a couple putts there towards the end I thought would have kept the round going and unfortunately it kind of stalled out a little bit.
"Certainly better than it was yesterday."
Asked about putting into a bunker, he added: "That was not a good putt. It was downwind and I hit it way too hard.
"It got going on the wind and got going on the grain and was gone.
"The mindset, I was obviously ticked. At the end of the day, it was better than yesterday."
