Sky Sports Golf commentator bashes Sam Matterface over England Euros commentary
Sky Sports Golf commentator Ewen Murray comes down hard on the commentary of ITV's Sam Matterface in the closing stages of England's last 16 match against Slovakia.
Sky Sports Golf lead commentator Ewen Murray has bashed the commentary of ITV's Sam Matterface during England's tense last 16 match against Slovakia in Euro 2024 on Sunday.
Murray, 69, took specific aim at Matterface's commentary in the final stages of the match when England found themselves 1-0 down and just minutes away from being sent packing from Germany.
A defeat would have all-but seen England manager Gareth Southgate removed as the manager of the team, something Matterface, 46, and his co-commentator and Arsenal legend Lee Dixon, 60, could not help but allude to in stoppage time.
Dixon and Matterface also picked holes and questioned Southgate's tactics and a lack of substitutions made in the second half.
In the eyes of Scotland's Murray, whose voice is synonymous with Sky Sports Golf, the ITV and talkSPORT commentator Matterface should have solely focused on the commentary of the game until the final whistle was up.
Murray remains in disbelief that ITV decided to let legendary football commentator Clive Tyldesley go and instead replace him with Matterface.
But in the dying seconds, Bellingham came to England's rescue with a sensational overhead kick in the 94th minute.
The game then went to extra time and captain Harry Kane sent England through to the quarter-finals against Switzerland after tucking away a neat header in the six-yard box just seconds after the restart.

Murray tweeted:
"Not sure Clive would have broadcasted the obituary of Gareth with 4 mins to go. A bit like 'us and we' in the last final? Sport is not predictable, commentary is present."
A sports fan responded: "We and Us are common themes from English commentators commentating on England these days."
Murray replied: "Not Clive however. Just commentary on the flow of the game."
In an additional tweet, Murray continued to bash Matterface over his commentary of the last England game.
Murray tweeted:
"I think Clive and Ally are so good to listen to. They speak the way they see the game, and stats are only used to back up what they see, not to fill the space with the stuff too many commentators do. Stats are for pundit talk."
