Scottie Scheffler: "I find it a little weird you guys are asking me questions about him"
World number one Scottie Scheffler found it awkward and humorous as he was asked about Xander Schauffele with the golfer stood right next to him.
Scottie Scheffler found it a little bit humorous and awkward that he was asked to give his verdict on the best aspects of Xander Schauffele's game while the two-time major champ crashed his post-round interview.
Scheffler and Schauffele played the opening round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind together.
Both players were two shots off the lead on 4-under after 18 holes.
Scheffler's round included the Masters champion showing a rare outburst of anger as he was filmed slamming his wedge into a bunker after a poor shot from the sand.
Schauffele didn't even drop a shot.
The duo will be playing a lot together over the next few weeks given their standings in the FedEx Cup.
And there has already been quite a lot of discussion about which player deserves to be crowned the player of the year.
Scheffler has won six times, including a second Masters title, whereas Schauffele finally broke through in the majors, claiming the PGA Championship and The Open.
Rory McIlroy and Viktor Hovland gave their points of view before the tournament and offered contrasting opinions.
Scheffler was asked what he likes most about Schauffele's game.
He declined to comment when Schauffele asked him what he thought of his playing partner.
"I think he's really consistent," Scheffler said after he composed himself. "He's a guy that he's never really out of a hole.
"Sometimes throughout the course of a round you feel like he's going to make a mistake and he bounces back really quickly, and he's also a tremendously hard worker, so you like seeing guys like that have success."
He added: "It's fun just being out here competing [with him]. I find it a little weird you guys are asking me questions about him and he's literally right there.
"But it's a lot of fun. It's fun being out here competing.
"It's fun competing with your friends, but we want to beat up on each other, so it's a lot of fun playing with the best players and competing."
Schauffele was asked the same question.
"He really doesn't miss a shot often," the two-time major champion said.
"His golf ball is either, like, perfect or it's like a three or a four-yard pull or a three or a four-yard push.
"If he's got good sight lines with Teddy, it seems like he's always in the fairway and always in the hole.
"He makes golf really boring, which is what all of us really want to do because tee to green he's a monster, and now he's making putts, so it's great for everyone else."
Scheffler and Schauffele will begin their second rounds on Friday at 3.35pm (GMT+1).
