Rory McIlroy apologises to cameraman during final round of Memorial
World number three Rory McIlroy had to apologise to a cameraman during the final round of the PGA Tour's Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village.
It's not often PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy hits a shot this fat.
But that's exactly what the Northern Irishman did during the final round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village.
McIlroy didn't have the best of times at Jack's place and his shot at the fifth hole on Sunday just about summed up his week.
He nuked his drive straight down the middle of the fairway and, as you'd expect, tried to go for the green in two.
Instead, he caught his fairway metal a tad heavy and sent his TP5x sailing into the water.
A perturbed McIlroy finished the shot with one hand and decided to then nonchalantly lob his club backwards in frustration across the ground.
Only his club throw had a little bit too much heat and it nearly clipped the cameraman's legs.
That prompted McIlroy to say sheepishly: "Oops, sorry!"
Watch the moment here:
McIlroy ended up making a bogey on the hole but made amends with a birdie at the next par-5.
It looks as though McIlroy will have to wait for his 27th PGA Tour victory as at the time of publication he was trailing Scottie Scheffler by seven strokes.
Scheffler held a four-shot 54-hole lead and was chasing his fifth title in his last eight events.
The Memorial Tournament is the last PGA Tour stop the likes of McIlroy will play before the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No.2.
The third men's major of the year begins next Thursday.
