PGA Tour golfer who 'failed to maintain dignity' spared punishment
Rising PGA Tour star Tom Kim has been given a final warning after he damaged a locker in the aftermath of playoff defeat at the Genesis Championship in South Korea.
PGA Tour golfer Tom Kim has been given a warning for his locker room outburst at the Genesis Championship, according to a report.
Last month, the young South Korean endured playoff defeat to Ben An at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club.
He knifed his chip through the green on the first playoff hole at the DP World Tour event.
And An capitalised, making a birdie to earn him his first victory since the 2015 BMW PGA Championship.
Kim was understandably frustrated and by his own admission caused damage to a locker room door.
A picture was obtained by the Yonhap News Agency which showed the door off its hinges.
Kim apologised in a lengthy statement but lashed out at the false reporting of what transpired.
He said the door was removed from its hinges owing to safety concerns.
But it turns out he won't face any further disciplinary action, according to Korea JoonAng Daily.
A KPGA committee held a meeting yesterday (Weds) where it was determined Kim 'failed to maintain dignity'.
But they only issued the 22-year-old a warning for his behaviour.
Kim did not attend the meeting but his agent did, the report stated.
The rising PGA Tour star has agreed to pay all the costs for the damage.
What did Kim say?
Kim posted a lengthy statement on his Instagram page about the incident.
"There has been a lot of false reporting, and I wanted to clean things up," he said.
"It's important that the information comes directly from me, openly and honestly.
"After the loss I was frustrated, yes absolutely.
"But I can assure you with absolute truth that I had no intent of damaging any part of the locker, not a single bit.
"I addressed it with the DP World Tour and the KPGA right after the incident saying that the door came off.
"I'm grateful to everyone that's reached out with messages of support, but to them and everyone else that I may have let down, I apologise with all my heart."
