Peter Malnati's reason for using yellow golf balls will hit you in the feels!
Peter Malnati explains the very simple reason why he uses yellow golf balls on the PGA Tour.
Peter Malnati is one of very few players on the PGA Tour to use a yellow golf ball in 2024, but there is a good reason for it.
Malnati, 36, has proven so far this week at the Valspar Championship that yellow golf balls certainly work, too, as the American has moved into a tie for second heading into the final round on the fearsome Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort.
The PGA Tour player director carded a third-round 68 to move to 8-under par.
That saw him move to within just two strokes of 54-hole leader Keith Mitchell, who closed out his round with a walk-off eagle on 18.
Malnati is now going in search of his second career title on the PGA Tour having won the 2015 Sanderson Farms Championship.
Why does Peter Malnati play with yellow golf balls?
But back to the original story, and the reason why Malnati uses a yellow golf ball.
While many golfers using yellow golf balls cite visibility reasons and consider they are useful for finding in the rough, Malnati's reason is much more emotional.
Malnati's reason for playing with a yellow golf ball on the PGA Tour is all down to his young son, Hatcher.
After the third round, Malnati said:
Malnati uses a Titleist Pro V1x Yellow.
Malnati is one of six player directors on the PGA Tour board in 2024.
Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth and Webb Simpson also assume roles as player directors.
All six player directors jetted over to the Bahamas for a meeting with Saudi PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan on Monday.
Recently appointed player liaison Joe Ogilvie was there too, alongside PGA Tour boss Jay Monahan and figures from Strategic Sports Group (SSG).
SSG invested an initial $1.5bn into PGA Tour Enterprises in January and the talks are over whether the PIF will come on board as minority investors.
Woods, 48, is said to have been 'engaged' in the talks and even stayed behind to play golf with Al-Rumayyan after the meeting.
Simpson said of Monday's meeting with PIF:
Have you ever used a yellow golf ball? What do you make of them? Share your thoughts and comments over on the GolfMagic social media channels.
