Ludvig Aberg explains 'brownie point' gesture to girlfriend Olivia Peet
PGA Tour star Ludvig Aberg is back in action at this week's Scottish Open after a few weeks off where he spent time with his girlfriend Olivia Peet.
PGA Tour golfer Ludvig Aberg is back in action after a few weeks off.
Aberg is in the field for the Scottish Open where he will take on the likes of Rory McIlroy in the penultimate event before the final men's major of the year.
The young Swede, 24, told reporters on Wednesday at The Renaissance Club he spent some of his much-needed break in his homeland.
He was filmed at Barsebäck & Country Club where needed a breakfast ball on the first tee after striping one out of bounds.
Before heading to Scotland, Aberg also stopped off to watch Wimbledon with his girlfriend Olivia Peet.
He wasn't the only high-profile golfer that was snapped at the tennis major.
His Ryder Cup teammates Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Matthew Fitzpatrick were also invited to SW19.
European skipper Luke Donald was also there.
Aberg posted a snap from the day and cracked up golf fans when he said all he could think about was hitting a full 60 degree off the grass court.
"Wimbledon was very, very cool," he said.
"I've always liked tennis. I've always watched the bigger tournaments. But then obviously when I started hanging out with Olivia, my girlfriend, she played tennis in college, and I've naturally gotten into it a little bit more.
"But we had a great -- she loved it. It was very cool for me to have that experience with her. Yeah, the place is so cool.
"There are a lot of similarities between golf and tennis. Wimbledon and Centre Court is kind of like their mechanism can a. For me to experience that from afar was pretty cool."
So did he get some brownie points for taking Olivia there?
"Yeah," Aberg said. "I mean, she wasn't made at me, so that was good I guess."
"We had a very uncharacteristic day in Scotland"
Aberg would of course love to claim his second PGA Tour victory this week.
But his focus will be on The Open at Royal Troon next week.
Aberg has already played a practice round there with Viktor Hovland.
"We had a very uncharacteristic day in Scotland where it was 20 degrees, sunny and no wind," he said.
"I don't think it will be that way next week, at least we don't expect it to be.
"But the golf course was great. It was tough. It was my first time there. I remembered a lot of those holes from when Henrik [Stenson] won in 2016.
"I think that should be a national holiday in Sweden; it was very cool."
He added: "The place is really cool. It will be challenging, obviously the back nine and front nine are a little bit different.
"The front nine is a little bit easier and more gettable. And then you make the switch here on 10, and all of a sudden you get the wind into your face. It will be a good challenge and looking forward to it."
