Justin Thomas hit a miraculous flop shot for a tap-in birdie as he moved into contention on day two of the Valspar Championship.

Thomas, 30, went on to card a 2-under 70 on a testing day on the feared Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort.

It moved the two-time US PGA champion to 5-under par for the tournament and just one stroke off the lead heading into the weekend.

Thomas is going in search of his 16th PGA Tour title but his first since the US PGA Championship in May 2022.

The American's driving was particularly errant for a second day running but thankfully his short game bailed him out more often than not.

In particular on the par-5 14th where Thomas sprayed his second shot with a fairway wood way right of the green.

After getting line of sight from behind an electric scoreboard, Thomas was able to take a free drop.

Thomas' ball went forwards on both drops, so he was able to handily place his ball in the rough.

He then stepped in to play the most miraculous flop shot you will likely see all season.

It was certainly the shot of the second round.

Thomas landed his ball in the perfect possible spot in the fringe and his ball trundled down to kick-in range for birdie.

Thomas was left to rue a poor iron shot into the 18th hole as he went on to make a bogey to card a round of 70.

PGA Tour veteran Stewart Cink, Kevin Streelman, Chandler Phillips, Brendon Todd and Mackenzie Hughes are all tied for the lead on 6-under par heading into the weekend.

Pre-tournament favourite Xander Schauffele is still in the hunt at 2-under par.
