Golf legend Tiger Woods reaches significant landmark
Multiple major champion Tiger Woods has turned 49 years old - meaning the hall of famer is only one year away from playing PGA Tour Champions events.
Multiple major champion Tiger Woods has reached a significant landmark in his career.
The decorated hall of famer turned 49 on 30 December.
It means the big cat is officially 12 months away from competing in PGA Tour Champions events.
And perhaps most importantly, playing on the senior Tour would allow the 15-time major champ to use a golf cart.
He has hinted in the past that he will play at the senior level, and even Jack Nicklaus indicated that Woods would be prepared to use a cart.
If Woods is still playing professional golf come 2026, it would allow him to get in some more competitive reps around the major championships without putting too much strain on his lower back and right leg.
Woods is still dealing with the effects from his single-car crash in California in 2021.
He fractured both the tibia and fibula in his right leg.
When he returned to professional golf at the 2022 Masters Tournament, Woods shocked reporters by revealing there was a 50 per cent chance his leg was going to be amputated.
This July, a spectator at the U.S. Junior Amateur snapped a picture of Woods' right leg for the first time since the crash without a protective sleeve.
Woods was there watching his teenage son Charlie compete in the event he won three times as a junior golfer.
How did Tiger Woods get on in 2024?
Once again, it was a frustrating year on the course for Woods.
In January, he revealed that he had plans to play at least once a month - including the major championships - but that failed to materialise.
He was forced to withdraw early in the second round of the Genesis Invitational, of which he serves as tournament host, through sickness.
In April, Woods broke the record for most consecutive cuts at The Masters with 24, surpassing Gary Player and Fred Couples.
He went on to finish dead last.
And he missed cuts at the PGA Championship, U.S. Open and The Open.
In September, he underwent the sixth back surgery of his career.
He has not revealed what his schedule will look like next year.
Before Christmas, he returned to action with Charlie at the annual PNC Championship.
The pair were defeated in a tense playoff by German legend Bernhard Langer and his son Jason at the hit-and-giggle PGA Tour event.
Woods told reporters that he was still not competitively sharp.
When will Tiger Woods play golf again?
Woods will be back in action in January with TGL.
His Jupiter Links side will be facing off against the Los Angeles quartet on 14 January at 7:00pm EST (12:00am GMT).
