Former PGA Tour winner slams LIV critic over lack of Angel Cabrera outrage
Former PGA Tour winner Paul Goydos has called out LIV Golf critic Brandel Chamblee for his 'lack of outrage' over his stance on Angel Cabrera's return.
Former PGA Tour winner Paul Goydos has called out LIV Golf critic Brandel Chamblee because of the analyst's 'lack of outrage' over the fact England's Richard Bland cannot compete on the senior circuit because of his ties to the breakaway tour whereas disgraced former Masters champion Angel Cabrera has been allowed to continue his career in America.
Cabrera, 54, served two years in prison in his native Argentina after being convicted of gender violence offences relating to two former girlfriends Cecilia Torres Mana and Micaela Escudero.
"I wasn't the devil, but I did bad things," Cabrera told Golf Digest upon his release.
"I ask Cecilia for forgiveness, I ask Micaela for forgiveness."
Cabrera was released on parole last August and placed on record a desire to resume his career in the US and play the Masters Tournament once again.
He encountered difficulty getting into the country but was given a visa last May.
And last December, Cabrera was officially reinstated to the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions.
Augusta National chiefs have since confirmed the 2007 green jacket winner would be welcome into the field in the future.
Golfweek have reported Cabrera has now moved to Houston.
In a now deleted post on X, Goydos wrote: "Just so I understand, Richard Bland can't play PGA Tour Champions because he plays LIV, but your suspension for 'gender violence' can run concurrently with your prison sentence.
"Where is the @brandelchamblee outrage on this? Where is anybody's?"
Bland has won back-to-back senior majors but cannot make it a hat-trick when the Senior Open heads to Carnoustie later this month because the tournament is run by the DP World Tour and the R&A.
The Englishman resigned his DP World Tour membership to avoid being fined for competing in LIV events.
He has called on the R&A to stand up to the DP World Tour and permit him a place in the field.
Bland was also denied the customary exemption on the PGA Tour Champions following his victory at the Senior PGA Championship.
"I'm one of those weirdos that think committing 'gender violence' is worse than playing LIV," Goydos added.
Cabrera is in the field for this week's Kaulig Companies Championship at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.
He was one-under after three rounds in a tie for 16th.
