Adam Svensson eagled the par-5 18th to shoot a stunning course-record 11-under 60 in the first round of the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota.

Svensson, 31, carded nine birdies and a closing eagle from long range to move into the outright lead on day one of the PGA Tour's penultimate tournament of the regular season.

The Canadian is going in search of a second career PGA Tour title having won his first at the 2022 RSM Classic.

Svensson credited his blistering start down to a solid practice session and a hot putter.

"I had a great range session today," said Svensson after firing his course record 60.

"Just really putted amazing, I made a bunch of breakers.

"It was probably my best putting round I ever had so I'm pretty happy."

Sam Stevens and Thorbjorn Olesen are also in early contention at 9-under par, with in-form Chris Gotterup a further shot behind alongside Chad Ramey and Matt Schmid.

Gotterup has been in the form of his life this month with not only a second PGA Tour title in Scotland two weeks ago but also a third place finish at The Open last week.

Elsewhere, Rickie Fowler continued his impressive recent play with a solid 6-under 65.

Fowler is seeking a late push over the coming weeks to not only make it deep into the FedEx Cup Playoffs next month but to also potentially give himself an outside chance of making Keegan Bradley's US Ryder Cup team.

"I'm looking forward to play well this week and go into next week and put ourselves in a good position," said Fowler after round one.

"Ultimately I think initial goal is to make it to BMW and be inside the top-50, but we'll take it day by day for now."
