Open Championship 2025: Which big names missed the cut at Royal Portrush?
The Open Championship 2025: Check out which high-profile golfers missed the cut at the halfway stage of the final men's major of the year at Royal Portrush.
The Open Championship will continue at Royal Portrush this weekend without some star power.
A host of big names moved up the leaderboard on Friday at the final men's major of the year but several notable golfers are packing their bags.
The list of those making their exit after 36 holes in Northern Ireland includes major champions, former Open winners, LIV Golf recruits and PGA Tour members.
Let's take a look...
Cameron Smith (+8)
Former Claret Jug winner Smith told reporters on the eve of The Open he was working his butt off to turn around his poor form and was firmly in within the cut line after 18 holes.
But he will be heading back to Australia having missed cuts at all four major championships this year.
Adam Scott (+9)
Like the aforementioned Smith, the former Masters champion made a solid start to the 2025 Open.
It was no surprise, given he was firmly in the mix after 54 holes at last month's US Open and is generally well-suited to links golf.
However, the Australian was undone by too many sloppy mistakes and dropped 99 places down the leaderboard on Friday.
Sahith Theegala (+7)
Theegala, admittedly, was only making his fourth Open appearance this week.
But the 27-year-old American will have expected more of himself.
Collin Morikawa (+7)
Morikawa's struggles continue.
The American recruited legendary caddie Billy Foster for last week's Scottish Open and the final men's major of the season but looked completely off his game here.
Brooks Koepka (+7)
Koepka was reportedly playing with a slight knee injury this week, according to his swing coach Peter Cowen.
Still, that's three missed cuts in the majors for Koepka in 2025.
That is this first time he has done that in his entire career.
Louis Oosthuizen (+6)
As a former Open winner, the South African will have no doubt expected better of himself.
Patrick Reed (+5)
Reed spoke of his desires to qualify for the US Ryder Cup team before The Open, but it looks like Captain America has missed his chance.
Min Woo Lee (+5)
Min Woo Lee has finally broken through on the PGA Tour and has been expected to mount a challenge in a major. The wait continues.
Cameron Young (+4)
Played well at the US Open last month and was seen by many as a dark horse to contend for the Claret Jug.
Patrick Cantlay (+3)
Another quiet year for the American.
Joaquin Niemann (+2)
One of 19 LIV players in the field, the Chilean leads the breakaway tour's individual standings with four wins.
But the 26-year-old still has plenty of questions to answer in the biggest events.
Jason Day (+2)
Day has now missed three Open cuts in his last five starts.
Tom Kim (+3)
A surprising missed cut, given the young South Korean was only two shots adrift of the lead after 18 holes.
Kim carded a disastrous 76 on Friday.
