Jon Rahm in fresh talks with LIV officials to make a change: "I'm pushing for it"
Jon Rahm says he has been in talks with LIV Golf officials about holding a links event a week before The Open Championship in 2025.
Jon Rahm says he's already held discussions with LIV Golf officials about having a links event on the schedule before The Open.
Per a report by GD's Evin Priest, Rahm said it was undeniable 'how much it helps' to play a links course a week before golf's oldest major.
Rahm arrived at Royal Troon having had a frustration major season where he finished in a tie for 45th at The Masters, missed the cut at the PGA Championship and was forced out of the U.S. Open on the eve of the tournament with a foot injury.
The Spaniard ultimately finished in a tie for seventh after four days battling the elements by the Scottish coast.
And he told GD before LIV's event in the United Kingdom at JCB Golf & Country Club that he is keen for the breakaway tour to explore the idea of having a links golf course on the schedule.
"I'm pushing for it," he said.
"There's so much that goes into adjusting to links golf; getting used to the greens and the ball reacting on the ground.
"I didn’t think about it until after [Troon], but it's undeniable how much it helps to play a links golf course the week before the Open."
Rahm added: "Obviously, LIV management have contracts in place with some venues and plans in the future.
"It's not as easy as it sounds to just say, ‘Well, let's do this.’ [But] it'd be something I would like to talk to other players [on LIV] about because that way, there’s strength in numbers if five, six or 10 solid players [all agree].
"I think a lot of people might agree with it."
There are plenty of options for LIV. Trump Turnberry springs to mind.
Rahm is keen on Ireland.
"I've always felt really welcome in Ireland," he added.
"It feels like home and some of the most fun rounds of golf I've ever played are there and there are some great venues.
"So yeah, if there was an opportunity for LIV Golf to play in Ireland it would be absolutely fantastic."
LIV Golf United Kingdom gets underway on Friday.
Rahm is yet to win on the league since joining last December.
He is currently second to Joaquin Niemann in the individual standings.
