Former LIV Golf pro lashes out at broken promises: "I trusted them"
Sergio Garcia's former LIV Golf teammate Eugenio Chacarra has criticised the breakaway tour for not keeping promises made before he joined.
Sergio Garcia's former LIV Golf teammate says he is 'sad' promises weren't kept during his time with the breakaway tour.
Chacarra was the No.2 ranked amateur in the American college system when he decided to turn professional in 2022.
He was expected to forge a career on the PGA Tour but was persuaded to take a leap of faith and join the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series.
His decision meant that he was putting appearances in the major championships into serious doubt as the noisy tour wasn't assured world ranking points.
Players like Chacarra were also told by a bullish Greg Norman that the PGA would not be able to sanction LIV players whatsoever.
"Surely you jest," Norman famously wrote in a apoplectic email to PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan.
Unfortunately for Chacarra, the PGA Tour banned the 17 rebels that teed it up in the very first LIV event.
And LIV ended up abandoning their pursuit for Official World Golf Ranking accreditation.

And these are Chacarra's chief complaints.
The golfer revealed all in an interview with El Periodo Golf's Hugo Costa and Flushing It.
He said: "I have done very well in the LIV and I am very grateful.
"LIV has given me the money that I never thought I could win, it has solved my life and that of my future generations, but now I want to make history in golf."
He added: "I see what it's like to win on the PGA Tour and how your life changes. How you get major access and ranking points.
"On LIV, nothing changes, there is only money. It doesn't matter if you finish thirtieth or first, only money. I'm not a guy who wants more money.
"What will change my life is playing in Hawaii and qualifying for the majors, qualifying for the Masters [or] the Ryder Cup.
"When I joined LIV they promised OWGR and majors. But it didn't happen. I trusted them.
"I was the first young guy, then the others came after I made the decision.
"But OWGR and majors still hasn't happened.
"It's frustrating, but I'm excited for the new opportunity and to see where my game takes me.”
LIV players have to serve a one-year ban before they are allowed to play in PGA Tour events again.
Chacarra said he will be able to pursue a career on the North American circuit from 23 September 2025.
"It is not a disappointment, but I am a little sad because some of the things they told us at LIV never happened."
Chacarra's replacement was revealed today.
The European Ryder Cup legend has revealed Luis Masaveu, 22, will join the team for the 2025 season which begins next month.
Masaveu only turned professional last October.
"I am super excited to have Luis with us for many reasons, not only because he's a good looking young star but he's a world class person and that's what we love on Fireballs," Garcia told GolfMagic.
"This is what we try to have. I'm super excited, he has a lot of potential and I think he fits perfectly with the team."
Chacarra added: "I am very grateful for my past stage, but it is true that since I made the decision to leave LIV I have returned to being the player I was.
"It is a question of motivation, and LIV was only about money.
"There came a point where I wasn't completely happy.
"It had nothing to do with the team or the teammates, it was a question of motivation."
