Sky Sports Golf's Nick Dougherty immediately hit back after hearing Tyrrell Hatton complain about the speed of the greens at Kingsbarns in the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland.

Hatton, 32, is cruising along nicely in the second round as he goes in pursuit of a third Dunhill Links title at 'The Home of Golf' this weekend.

But the LIV Golf star was seemingly unhappy with the speed of the greens at Kingsbarns, at least on the par-4 10th when he left his 30-footer for birdie in the jaws of the hole.

"Oh they're so slow. Why? Cut them..." said a frustrated Hatton as he tapped his ball home for par to remain at 10-under par for the tournament.

A bemused Dougherty in the Sky Sports Golf commentary box then said: "No... you know why they don't cut them!

"Three rounds of golf, same pins, if they cut them quick and they get a day where it gets up to 20, 30mph winds, then they can become unputtable.

"He knows that, it's just a bit of frustration boiling over."

Co-commentator Dame Laura Davies said: "That's put him in his place..."

Legion XIII player Hatton has been allowed back on the DP World Tour as a result of having appealed his fines on the circuit.

Hatton was fined by the DP World Tour as a result of joining LIV Golf earlier in the season.

The same scenario has applied for Legion XIII captain Jon Rahm, who is also competing in Scotland this week.

Both Hatton and Rahm will now be able to fulfil their DP World Tour membership criteria and Ryder Cup status as a result of returning to the former European Tour circuit now that the 2024 LIV Golf season has finished.

Members need to play in at least four regular season events outside of the majors to maintain their DP World Tour cards and remain eligible for Luke Donald's 2025 European Ryder Cup team.

Hatton has now completed his four regular events, while Rahm will achieve that once he competes at the Andalucia Masters in two weeks' time.

Hatton is seeking a hat-trick of Dunhill Links titles this week.

The six-time DP World Tour winner became the first player in history to win back-to-back titles at the Dunhill Links in 2016 and 2017.

The only other multiple winner of the Dunhill Links is Padraig Harrington (2002, 2006).

Hatton is playing alongside his father, Jeff, who is also his golf coach.
