DP World Tour pro Matteo Manassero married Francesca Apollonio in 2022.

The Italian golfer has been on the comeback trail in 2024.

He burst onto the scene in 2013, winning the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth at just 19 years of age.

But despite his obvious talent, he spent years in the wilderness trying to recapture his form.

He stepped away from the game briefly in 2019 and thought about giving up golf altogether.

But he persevered and claimed his first victory in more than 11 years when he won the 2023 Copenhagen Challenge.

Since then, he added the Italian Open to his CV and is in prime position to make a challenge for the 2025 Ryder Cup team.

Manassero has credited his wife Francesca for helping him get back to where he feels he belongs.

Francesca even caddied for her husband during his two most recent victories.

Speaking to the official DP World Tour website, Manassero said of his bride: "She was a big help both weeks, putting me in the right frame of mind, offering me the right perspective on the situation and not getting too involved in shot selection.

"Put simply, she was just there for me. You smile together, you laugh, you talk and there is more to just being extremely intense and focused on the outcome of every shot, which at least for me can become a little bit too much.

"Those factors helped me perform, made me bring out my A-game in difficult circumstances."

He added: "She isn't going to become a full-time caddie for me.

"It just wouldn't be the right balance for us, but there are certainly things I have learned that I need from a caddie going forward that I probably wouldn't have considered before.

"I've realised that having someone alongside me who keeps me in a relaxed mindset is massive for the flow and freedom of my game."
