Alex Noren claimed his first DP World Tour title for over seven years after clinching a one-shot victory at the Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.

Noren fired a final-round 67 at The Belfry to post a winning score of 16 under par, the Swede recovering from a wobble at the 18th hole as he nailed a six-foot putt to pip Nicolai Hojgaard and Kazuma Kobori to the title.

It was Noren's 11th victory on the DP World Tour, and his first since the Open de France in 2018 shortly before he returned to Le Golf National in Paris to help Europe win the Ryder Cup.

The Swede, who missed the first four months of this year as he recovered from a nasty hamstring injury, forced himself into Luke Donald's thinking for next month's Ryder Cup at Bethpage, where Rasmus Hojgaard will make his debut in the contest.

Hojgaard closed with a nervy 71 to finish in a tie for 13th on eight-under, ensuring that he ended the European qualifying process in sixth place ahead of Shane Lowry.

Five of the six automatic places were confirmed last week, with Tyrrell Hatton and Robert MacIntyre the latest to join Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood on Donald's team.

Hojgaard arrived at The Belfry knowing he needed to finish in a tie for 29th or better to earn the 13.7 points that would see him overtake the Irishman, who must now rely on being one of Donald's six captain's picks.

Noren and Nicolai Hojgaard are also likely to be on Donald's shortlist along with the likes of Aaron Rai, Matt Fitzpatrick, Marco Penge and Matt Wallace, who all had disappointing final rounds at the British Masters.

Donald will announce his six picks on 1 September.
