Speedline Super S

Adams Speedline Super S is the brand’s longest stainless steel fairway wood. It features a cut-thru sole slot for a hotter face and high launch. Cut-Thru VST in the sole increases CT up to 230.

While the white crown design and diagonal writing stamped on the head has clearly been TaylorMade approved, the Super S has kept a familiar Adams trait with the cut-thru slot positioned at the front of the sole and also in the crown - Adams was the first brand to stick a slot in their woods with the Speedline F11 fairway.

This time around, however, the crown slot is thinner, deeper and longer from heel to toe. Paired with a matte black face, the contrasting colours also made the clubhead appear bigger at address and this inspired us with a great deal of confidence when standing over the ball. It would maybe be nice to have something in the middle of the crown to aid better alignment but the slot in the crown certainly helps you focus in on the ball.

Feel is of course a preference but an important one when determining whether to purchase a club. Clubhead felt a little heavier than ideal but impact felt great both in terms of solid feel and a hearty sound. The stock shaft in the Speedline Super S is a Matrix Radix S and I felt that it was holding up well to those shots that I really wanted to go after. It also delivered a nice smooth feeling through the ball at impact.

In terms of performance, I received tight dispersion, easy launch and decent overall distance around the 220-yard mark. The higher the launch angle meant more carry and better descending angles. Very easy to get airborne.

Verdict

Tremendous value for money. Impressive looks, solid performance and distance and easy launch off the deck. To me, this performs like a hybrid but with 3-wood distance. Oh and it comes with a beautiful leather, boxing-punch bag-style headcover - perfect should you hit a squiffy one!
