JPX 850 driver

In combination with Mizuno’s Quick Switch shaft release system, the JPX 850 also offers lofts from 7.5 to 11.5 within one head, while its piercing blue 440cc head utilises a "Hot Metal" face and "Rebound Crown" to maximise balls speed.

Looks: It proved to be one of the nicest crowns to look down on at address, although the sole design divided opinion - one loved it, while the other thought the adjustable sliding rail looked a little scruffy. There is good alignment on the crown with the running bird logo and the silver face is nicely distinguished from the blue crown. The head is not the biggest but it certainly sits nicely behind the ball and instills confidence. Tester's comment: "I want to hang it on my wall."

Feel: It was smooth to swing and feedback was subtle but easily perceived. The clubhead felt a little heavier at address than some of the others and that delivered exceptional energy through impact. Tester's comment: "As always, nothing feels like a Mizuno."

Performance: One of the longest in the test, particularly when the weights were placed in the front centre as it dramatically reduced spin. Some drives reached over 290 yards when caught out the middle. With the weights in the back, the spin rate was approximately 400 to 500 RPM higher. The JPX 850 was in the middle of the pack for forgiveness, however. Tester's comment: "An absolute bullet."

Verdict: SILVER

One of the longest drivers in the test, especially when the weights were shifted to the front. While it typically felt nice in the hands and also looked superb at address, it did not prove quite as forgiving as our gold winners and so for that reason it picks up a silver. It is a little pricey at £349, too, but if you are after added distance in 2015 then look no further than this one.
