Sentry Tournament of Champions 2023: Prize purse, payout info, field

The 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions represents the first event played on the PGA Tour with "elevated" status. 

That means the total prize purse on offer this week in Kapalua is a whopping $15m. The winner will receive a cheque for $2.7m. 

The Sentry Tournament of Champions will be played over January 5-8 at the Plantation Course. It is a course that offers plenty of birdie opportunities. 

Last year Cameron Smith - who has joined LIV Golf - was the winner as he raced to a record-low PGA Tour score of 34-under par. 

As many as 17 of the world's top 20 players are participating. Scottie Scheffler is the highest-ranked player in the 38-man field. 

Bright young talent Tom Kim, 20, is one of 13 players making their debut in this event.

Kim is targeting a legacy like Tiger Woods after signing with Nike. 

If you didn't know, the Sentry Tournament of Champions has a limited field. 

Typically, the tournament was reserved for winners of PGA Tour events but going forward those who qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake are eligible.
