PGA Tour set to reveal tournaments to become ELEVATED EVENTS

In August, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan announced that four new Elevated Events would be added to the 2023 schedule, confirming the participation of the Tour's top players.

The PGA Tour will soon confirm which four tournaments will become Elevated Events as the 2023 schedule gets underway.

As first reported by Eamon Lynch of Golfweek, the WM Phoenix Open, the RBC Heritage, the Wells Fargo Championship and the Travelers Championship are set to be elevated this season.

These four tournaments will rotate each season to make sure that sponsors will be guaranteed to host a strong field.

In August, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan announced radical changes to the 2023 schedule which also included a new Earnings Assurance Program, a Travel Stipend Program and the Player Impact Program's prize fund being increased to $100 million.

Despite some confusion on this front from Jon Rahm, the 'top 20' players on Tour have agreed to compete in the new total of 13 Elevated Events, as well as four major championships and three other events of their choosing.

The 'top 20' players refer to the top 20 of the current Player Impact Program. As of now, we don't know who has won the second run of this initiative which was won by Tiger Woods last year.

These changes were made to combat the rise and financial power of the LIV Golf Tour, nailing down their best players to an enhanced schedule with more prize money. The average purse of each Elevated Event will be $20 million. The Players Championship has a prize purse of $25 million and the FedEx Cup Bonus Pool is now $75 million.

The original nine Elevated Events are as follows: The Players Championship, three FedEx Cup Playoff events, the Genesis Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Memorial Tournament, the WGC Match Play and the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

"Our top players are firmly behind the Tour, helping us deliver an unmatched product to our fans, who will be all but guaranteed to see the best players competing against each other in 20 events or more throughout the season," Monahan said in August.

"Every single member of the PGA Tour is going to benefit from the changes that we're going to be making. The Tour is going to continue to grow by having the best players in the world committed to it, by us continuing to lean into and invest in our ethos, which is the single-best competitive platform."

Before Monahan's announcement, the changes to the 2023 schedule were discussed by a number of players including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in a meeting at the BMW Championship.
