Compton played in two PGA Tour events last season and missed the cut in both of them at the Honda Classic and Charles Schwab Challenge.
Although he has never won on the PGA Tour during his career, Compton has one Korn Ferry Tour victory to his name coming at 2011 Mexico Open.
That tournament is now a PGA Tour event on the schedule, and it was this year won by Tony Finau.
Compton also has three wins to his name on the Canadian Tour with victories coming in 2003 and 2004.
He also won twice on the NGA Hooters Tour, and he also won the 2005 Hassan II Trophy in Morocco, a tournament that now finds itself on the PGA Tour Champions.
Compton was diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy when he was young, and he has undergone two heart transplants.
The first was in 1992 when he was 12 years old, and the second was in 2008.
News emerged earlier this month that two-time major champion Angel Cabrera is targeting a return to the sport after coming out of prison.
