Padraig Harrington was in the thick of battle at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship on Saturday, but he faced a problem on the 15th hole with spectator shadows on his ball.

Padraig Harrington moved spectators on PGA Tour Champions, but paid them…

Padraig Harrington shot an incredible 62 in the third round of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship to move five shots ahead of Steven Alker in Arizona.

Harrington, 51, made seven birdies and an eagle to move to 21-under at Phoenix Country Club, but he needs Steven Alker to drop out of the top five if he is to win the season-long points list and the Schwab Cup.

The Irishman reached the 15th hole off the back of four consecutive birdies. It was 185 yards over water, so he needed full focus and perfect conditions to play his shot.

He noticed some shadows formed by some fans in the grandstand to the right of the tee box. He and his caddie asked them to move, but Harrington felt he owed them something in return.

"They'd been sitting there, I assume all day waiting for this. I hope they were waiting for me all day and I got them to move," Harrington explained after his round.

"They still had a good view - But I did buy them a beer afterwards, so I gave it to one guy, but it was for everybody in the area. I actually went with $50 and I kind of said, 'probably only get a few beers for $50, I better go back with $100."

I'm sure the spectators were more than happy with their reward after watching the three-time major champion find the middle of the green with another impressive shot.

Harrington took the PGA Tour Champions by storm in 2022. He won three times, came second four times and third place twice. This was enough to see him into second place in the Charles Schwab Cup standings in the regular season.

Alker from New Zealand went one better than Harrington with four wins during the season, including four runner-ups and four thirds.
