FedEx Cup standings: What scores will players start on at Tour Championship?
Patrick Cantlay rose five places to second in the FedEx Cup standings for successfully defending his BMW Championship by one shot at Wilmington Country Club.
Despite Patrick Cantlay making history at the BMW Championship, it will be Scottie Scheffler who enters the Tour Championship at East Lake at the top of the leaderboard.
With a score of 69 on Sunday, Cantlay secured his eighth PGA Tour title and became the first ever player to defend a title from the FedEx Cup Playoffs at Wilmington Country Club.
However, a tied third finish for World No.1 Scottie Scheffler means that he will begin the season-ending finale with a two-shot advantage ahead of Cantlay.
Although Will Zalatoris and LIV Golf recruit-to-be Cameron Smith both withdrew at different points of the week in Delaware, they are both set to play for the whopping $18 million bonus next week.
Zalatoris, who won the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week, will start on 7-under-par in Atlanta. Scheffler will begin on 10-under-par with a two-shot lead over Cantlay on 8-under-par.
Scheffler has been the outstanding player of the 2022 season. He won his maiden title on Tour at the WM Phoenix Open and he followed this up with his first major win at The Masters.
Add trophies at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC Match Play and he has spent 22 weeks at the top of the world rankings, four weeks behind Jordan Spieth's total.
Scott Stallings, Adam Scott, K. H. Lee and Aaron Wise all began the BMW Championship outside of the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings but made it to the Tour finale.
Unfortunately, J. J. Spaun, Joohyung Kim, Kevin Kisner and Davis Riley all dropped out of the top 30 having entered the week in a strong position to qualify for the Tour Championship.
