WATCH: Matt Fitzpatrick with the luckiest golf break of all time?!
But Fitzpatrick fails to fully capitalise as Andrea Pavan birdies the second extra hole to win the BMW International Open
Matt Fitzpatrick received arguably the biggest break ever seen in European Tour history when his ball plugged in the grass inches short of the water by the green on the first extra hole of the BMW International Open in Germany.
After seeing his hopes nearly sunk, England's Fitzpatrick went on to make par and halve the first extra hole with Italy's Andrea Pavan.

Unfortunately for Fitzpatrick, however, he would go on to lose the playoff at the second extra hole as Pavan collected his second European Tour title with a birdie.
Pavan started the final round four strokes off the pace but carded a solid 6-under 66 to set the clubhouse target at 15-under, which was matched an hour later by Fitzpatrick who two-putted for birdie at the par-5 18th.
But despite the drama of the first extra hole which saw Fitzpatrick narrowly avoid the water, it was Pavan who kept his composure to make birdie at the second extra hole.
Pavan sent a laser-like wedge down the flag from 130 yards out of the rough to within three feet of the pin for birdie.
The 30-year-old becomes the first Italian winner of the BMW International Open and second Italian winner of the European Tour season following in the footsteps of GolfMagic Tour blogger Guido Migliozzi, who has won twice this year.
Fitzpatrick found the greenside bunker in two shots but failed to get up and down for the required birdie.
Defending champion Matt Wallace needed a birdie up the 72nd hole to reach the magic 15-under mark, but sent his drive into the water to eventually finish in a seven-way tie for third on 13-under.
