Spieth admits Masters collapse haunted him - 'loathed' playing Augusta afterwards
Jordan Spieth talks about the impact of his infamous collapse in the 2016 Masters.
Jordan Spieth has admitted his Masters meltdown in 2016 haunted him, and said he “loathed” playing Augusta afterwards.
The 2015 masters champion looked set to go back-to-back in Georgia after standing on the 10th tee on Sunday with a five-shot lead.
However, he proceeded to drop six shots in the next three holes, sending two balls into the water on the par-three 12th hole, allowing Danny Willet to sneak in and snatch the green jacket.
"Even though it was still a tremendous week and still was a really good year in 2016, that kind of haunted me and all the questioning and everything. I let it tear me down a little bit. I kind of lost a little bit of my own freedom, thoughts on who I am as a person and as a golfer," Spieth said.
"I loathed going to the golf course for a while."
Spieth went on to a T11 finish in 2017, before coming third this year.
