Tiger hates Valderrama's 17th
The World number one hates the hole that has cost him dearly this week...
Tiger Woods has met his nemesis…the 17th hole at Valderrama. The World number One found the water there three times this week in the WGC American Express Invitational and yet again, it has cost him.
Last year, Woods narrowly scraped through in a playoff victory against Miguel Angel Jimenez after he found the water fronting the green in the final round . He carded an 8 that time and was lucky to make the 8 in the end!
This year, he found the water three times in four rounds and the double bogey seven he took in the final round effectively gave Mike Weir the tournament and allowed Lee Westwood to wrap up the Volvo Order of Merit and claim second place for the $500,000 prize.
But Woods, who has a bad record at the Spanish venue is adamant that the hole is not well designed, despite several changes in the past years.
"Every ball I've hit in the water there have been good shots," he said. "It's just indicative of the hole.
"It's not very well designed and unfortunately, if you just walk round the bank, look how many balls are in the water."
